Images – the beginning

Hey folks! So, I’ve been asked a lot about my poetry book that I have been working on ‘The Life And Death Of Love’ and how it started, so as you can see in these pictures it started what feels like years and years ago (probably because it was) in notebooks like these! I have always enjoyed poetry and I think I still have a poem I wrote about a dolphin when I was 7, so due to this love I naturally gravitated towards poetry to express my feelings, this would originally begin at high-school with hours sat in the library writing my angsty early teen poems about dark things! it was my goth stage and high-school was not the greatest experience for me so I found a release in poetry. This would later develop to become my diary style, no dates, no titles, no names just a poem per event as it were. Growing older and getting into more serious relationships is a massive part of most of our lives, relationships consume us, become us and I found myself using my books as a coping device, it was a safe place away from anyone else’s eyes and a place I could vent and lay down the words without blowing my top. Every lovers tiff, every new guy, every smile, confusion, heartbreak and more filled my books in the form of poems, some of them represented a single emotion, others a single look amongst other things. I had wondered for years what to do with them and decided they needed to become a book. First I needed to find a common thread to the poems and the main one was love so that was my starting point, it would be about love, now I had poems about very different relationships, different men, family, friends and I needed a way to merge them all together to tell one story, luckily for me I hadn’t used gender, names or specifics so that was a massive bonus in this process and I began the task of reading back over all my books to find poems that really stood out to me, hours and hours of writing them out onto separate sheets of paper (I’m very tactile, I like to hold things in my hands) then it would be a case of creating a narrative from these fragments, a step that would test me to the limits…TO BE CONTINUED

  1. Aw, this was an exceptionally nice post. Spending some time and actual effort to generate a good article… but what can I say… I hesitate a whole lot and never manage to get nearly anything done.
